COMAGUA, Water Platform
A digital and innovative tool to visualize and manage data on water access in the Gran Chaco region.
In Argentina, around 9 million people do not have access to safe or potable water. In rural and scattered areas, this affects approximately 2.6 million people. In the Gran Chaco region, which spans Argentina, Bolivia, Paraguay, and Brazil, many of the issues faced by families stem from a lack of access to safe water. This is mainly due to extreme climatic conditions, with up to nine months of drought, and the limited availability of shallow groundwater, often containing high levels of arsenic or salt.
To better understand the challenges faced by thousands of rural populations and influence public policy, we developed COMAGUA, a digital platform that provides real-time data on water and sanitation access in the Gran Chaco region, as part of the Chaco Innova initiative by Nanum Mujeres Conectadas.
The lack of access to safe water is an urgent issue that requires accurate and reliable data to develop joint solutions. Having detailed and integrated information on water-related issues in rural communities is key to strengthening actions and generating policies for access to water in sufficient quantity and quality.
